Thursday, April 3
The Commonspace Night at the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra
Powell Symphony Hall, 718 N. Grand
$10, all ages, 8 p.m., 314-534-1700
Attendance: 66 paid tickets
"Musical Games"
William Eddins, conductor
Stewart Goodyear, piano
Berlioz, "Le Corsaire Overture"
Ravel, "Piano Concerto in G major"
Stravinsky, "The Fairy's Kiss"
Two 20th-century masters take on music other than their own. Ravel plays with jazz in his concerto, and Stravinsky redoes Tchaikovsky with what we might call genetic engineering, infusing the older master's melodies with a musical sound that's all his own.
Pre-concert Perspective with William Eddins one hour prior to the concert.
Tickets (normally $63 for center parquet seating) are just $10 for those who call 314-534-1700 and mention "The Commonspace"; we'll all be sitting together for a great evening out at Powell Symphony Hall!
After the concert, mosey across the street for a reception at The Commonspace, where you can meet and mingle with SLSO musicians, rub elbows with your fellow concert-goers, and nosh on cheese/wine/assorted delightful snacks. It's bound to be the season's poshest event...well, certainly the most fun!
